This year the Dam project will go ahead
In
autumn 2005, an updated environmental impact assessment and
resettlement action plan were published by the consortium and
applications for export credit insurance were filed in Austria,
Switzerland and Germany.
This year 2006 on the 5th of
August occured the ceremony of starting the Dam building by laying the
foundation stone in the presence of the Turkish prime minister
Erdogan. According to him all technical and financial questions are
solved which is not true. The project is far from meeting the
international standards. Until now there is no decision by the Export
Credit Agencies.
With busses NGO members, Mayors from all
the region and people from the provinces Diyarbakir, Batman, Siirt,
Mardin and Sirnak went to the Ilisu dam site. 8.000 people demonstrated
the big public opposition against the Dam building
